BullGuard Review 2019 - Antivirus, Internet Security & Premium Protection reviewed

Like most other Internet security software companies, BullGuard offers three levels of security for its products: entry-level Antivirus, the mid-level Internet Security Suite, and a Premium Protection suite. All 3 products have the same graphic interface, each component being displayed in a big square section on the main window. Some of the panels may display as disabled, in case your subscription does not cover a specific component.

The products are quite simple and easy to install. The basic Antivirus product is available as a stand-alone only for Windows operating systems, while Internet Security and Premium Protection are multi-license ( can be installed on Windows, Mac or Android, no matter the combination). You will benefit most from Internet Security and Premium Protection if you have a Windows PC or laptop. You should be aware that not all the features are available on all operating systems. For example, the Mac product has only basic antivirus functionality and for Android are available these features: antivirus, call manager, parental control, antitheft and backup. For Windows, the Internet Security suite and Premium Protection are offering a collection of handy features and a very good value for the money. Actually, the BullGuard Premium Protection that comes with a standard license for 10 devices, it's a bargain at this price. More important than this, BullGuard has obtained good scoring in several antivirus tests, better than other well-known antivirus brands.

Real-time antivirus protection

BullGuard antivirus uses an intelligent triple layer protection system to detect malware on your PC. One is the classic way, Signature-based, which deals with known malware. The second layer uses Behavioral Detection, which scans code for signature and anomalies associated with malware. Three, any malware it detects is locked down in quarantine and then neutralized before infection can take place.
Safe Browsing.
This feature is actually very nice and useful. It helps you to prevent being infected by visiting malicious websites. All the websites that come up in your searches are marked with a green check if they are safe or a stop sign if they are considered dangerous. The dangerous websites are blocked automatically when you try to access them but you can also add an exception if you insist to visit them. This is a very good asset to prevent fishing attacks.

Firewall.
The firewall protects you against network attacks. This is a separate and better firewall solution than the one existing in Windows. The firewall's component automatically defines rules to allow network access for some known programs and Windows components. Sometimes, you'll have to tell it what to do about any unknowns. BullGuard's firewall popup asks whether to allow or block each unknown program's network access.

Advanced Backup.
You can backup your data online to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive account or you can use an external disk. You'll have to create a profile and choose what you want to back up, where and when. Files are also encrypted using a password.

Game Booster
A lot of other security brands have also included lately a "game mode" in their products. Usually, this is a profile that you can activate while you're playing and it will disable notifications, scans or other background services in order to minimize resource usage. Well, this game booster from BullGuard does all that and more. Even if it looks like a simple on/off setting, it's much more complex. While blocking pop-ups and other annoying interruptions, Game Booster automatically optimizes CPU performance and shifts the processing power to the game. It will offer a smoother gaming experience without any lag while keeping your protection active.

PC Tune-Up.

BullGuard's PC Tune-Up removes unnecessary files and frees up memory so your computer runs faster. It cleans caches for all major browsers, defragments the registry, clean temp files, deletes invalid shortcuts and more. Checks that your personal information it's not exploited by hackers. It scans the web for your personal details like usernames, email and postal addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers and whenever one of your registered details is made public online, it alerts you via email or text message and provides you with advice on what to do. The service is available only for US, UK, Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Ireland, and Netherlands.

Home Network Scanner
The Home Network Scanner component scans all the devices connected to your network, for security flaws. This includes all connected devices like smartphones, gaming console, Smart TV, cameras, baby monitors, thermostats or any other smart device connected to the internet. It displays all devices in a list showing the IP, manufacturer’s name and device type. You can edit the names and types or have a detailed view for each device found. Network scanner is running automatically in the background and displays a small pop-up each time a new device connects to your network. You can also launch a scan manually.
